Al Davis dead at 82

                           Al Davis: July 4, 1929 - October 8, 2011

Al Davis, the iconic owner of the Oakland Raiders, died Saturday, he was 82.

Steve Perry, the president and executive director of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, issued the following statement:

"Pro football has lost a true giant of the game, a person whose name is synonymous with a 'commitment to excellence.' His contributions to the game and love of his team are well documented. Few have achieved the successes and respect he accomplished in his years as a coach, league commissioner and club owner. His Hall of Fame legacy will live on and will always be a major chapter in the pro football story."

During Davis' historic 48-year run with the Raiders, he won three Super Bowls and enjoyed 28 winning seasons, including a stretch of 16 from 1965 through 1980.

Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. Rest in peace Al Davis
